NAIMA BOCK 30 DEGREES
Naima Bock has been crafting her sound since she was a child; writing, recording and playing her earthy guitar music behind closed doors until a few years ago. The South Londoner is also a member of folk collective Broadside Hacks and was Goat Girl’s first bassist, but now she’s using her own name to release her mindfully-crafted songs on Sub Pop. The first single to land is ‘30 Degrees’. With acoustic guitar and Naima's angelic voice at the centre of the track, we're reminded of classic 60s folk, but subtle synths allow it to sit comfortably in the sounds of today. Scattered drums and percussion come to a hush for the lusciously harmonised line that closes the chorus: ‘walk in and rise, cry and rise’. In the outro, the wobbly bass strings bend and the the rhythm unravels whilst Naima’s harmonised vocals are overlaid like a calm sea. Listen to '30 Degrees' here and keep your ears peeled for more! -Ellie Rose-Davies
